The franchise started its history in 1958 under the name of the Appleton Foxes. Currently, it’s part of the Midwest League and has the status of the Class-A affiliate of the Major League Baseball team Milwaukee Brewers.
Meaning and history
Established in 1958, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers baseball club has changed several affiliates throughout the year, starting its new partnership with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009. While being the affiliates of the Brewers, the Timber Rattlers have upgraded from Class A to the High-A, after almost sixty years.
As for the league, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have been more stable and constant: they started their career in the Three-I League and moved to the Midwest League already in 1962, where they still play today. Since their inception into the new league, the Timber Rattlers have managed to win ten league titles, twelve division titles, and eleven first-half titles, which make it quite a strong competitor for the Minor League Baseball lineup.
The name of the club was also only changed twice during the whole history of the franchise: the team was established as the Fox Cities Foxes, changing into the Appleton Foxes in 1967. As for the current name, it was adopted in 1995, representing the new era in the team’s history, and their determined approach towards the game.
1995 — 2010
The logo adopted in 1995 was based on a wordmark. The lettering “Rattlers” was given in a black script with the red outline, while the word “Timber” in a traditional sans serif type could be seen above.
2011 — Today
The redesign was performed by the sports branding firm Studio Simon. The centerpiece of the updated Wisconsin Timber Rattlers logo is a curled-up snake having a menacing look at its muzzle, which is only reinforced by its sharp fangs. The word “Wisconsin” in white can be seen on a cardinal banner above, followed by “Timber” in grey and “Rattlers” in white.
