Tubi TV is an American free streaming service created in 2014 and part of Fox Corporation since 2020. Unlike its main competitors such as Netflix and Hulu, Tubi provides its content for free, earning only from advertising within the movies and series shown on the platform. You don’t even need to register to use the service, shower the registration of the platform gives some advantages.
Meaning and history
Online streaming platform Tubi was founded in 2014, in San Francisco, where the company is still headquartered today. In addition to the United States market, Tubi also serves viewers from Canada and Australia. Thus, at the time of the service’s purchase by Fox Corporation, the platform’s audience amounted to about 25 million users per month.
Unlike many of its competitors, Tubi doesn’t charge a fee to watch or even require you to register an account with them. In exchange for not having a monthly subscription, Tubi inserts ads and commercials into their content.
Unfortunately, at the moment, Tubi does not produce original content, but this drawback is well compensated for by the abundance of movies and TV series from such illustrious masters of their craft as Paramount, MGM, and Lionsgate.
Tubi service is available for use through a regular Internet browser and also has applications for mobile devices with operating systems Android and iOS, which makes it possible to watch your favorite movies and TV series for free on completely different devices.
In terms of visual identity, Tubi is a progressive brand, that chooses a minimalistic style, yet still with interesting elements, which make up the main recognizable emphasis of the logo.
2014 – 2017
The original Tubi logo, designed in 2014, has stayed active for the first three years of the streaming service’s history. It was a simple and friendly badge, based on the lowercase lettering in a rounded sans-serif typeface, with the “Tubi” part painted in intense orange, and the “TV” — in black. All letters were placed at the same distance from each other, creating a stable and balanced image.
2017 – 2024
The redesign of 2017 has introduced a super modern and distinctive badge for the Tubi platform, with just the name of the service written on the badge. It was still a lowercase inscription, but in a completely different typeface with straight cuts of the bars, and a shortened horizontal line of the “T”. There were two options for the color palette of the wordmark: plain black or gradient pink-to-orange.
2024 – Today
In 2024 the Tubi logo was redesigned again, and this time by the DixonBaxi agency. The lowercase inscription was rewritten in a bolder sans-serif, with the “T” formed by two elements — the main letter with the horizontal bar cut from the right, and a large solid dot, which makes up the continuation of the horizontal line. There are several options for the new logo color palette, however, the primary one is bright yellow.
Font and color
The bold and stable lettering from the primary logo of the Tubi brand is executed in a modern designer sans-serif typeface, which is based on one of the following commercial fonts: Boring Sans B Heavy or Heading Now 87 Extra Bold with the shape of the lowercase “T” significantly modified. The official typeface of the wordmark is called Tubi Sans and was designed by the Central Type typography.
As for the color palette of the Tubi visual identity, it uses a bright and vivid shade of yellow, which is usually associated with joy, happiness, and positive moments.
