Jeep Gladiator is an American pickup vehicle, which was introduced at the beginning of the 1960s, and created based on the platform of the legendary SJ SUV. The production of the Gladiator ceased in 1988 and re-started in 2018.

Meaning and history

The Jeep Gladiator pickup began production in the U.S. in 1962. The car, built on units of Jeep Wagoneer SUV, was offered with a two-door cab and three different wheelbase lengths.

The J-Series had the longest life in Jeep history. These full-size pickups had the same platform, front-end design, and drivetrain as the Wagoneer. Debuting in 1963 as the Gladiator, they were available with wheelbases of 3,048 mm (J-200) and 3,200 mm (J-300), a Dana 20 transfer case, and Dana 44 axles front and rear.

The model lived a relatively short life, and its production was completely discontinued by the end of the 1980s. After years of rumors and much speculation, a pickup based on the Jeep Wrangler debuted as the 2020 Gladiator. It was not built from previous generations of the Wrangler, as everyone expected, but literally from scratch. For example, the new original frame turned out to be much stronger than the usual Wrangler.

What is Jeep Gladiator?
Jeep Gladiator is the name of a pickup model from the American Jeep automaker, which saw the light in 1972 but was put on a pause for more than thirty years, coking back to the international SUV stage in 2018.

In terms of visual identity, Jeep Gladiator is sharp and stable. Its wordmark is usually set under the corporate Jeep badge, and in some cases, the first “A” of the lettering can be replaced by an emblem depicting a Roman gladiator in the helmet.

2018 – Today

The Jeep Gladiator logo is composed of two levels: the upper one boasts a clean and bold title case Jeep inscription in the corporate sans-serif font, while the bottom line features an uppercase Gladiator lettering in a modern geometric sans-serif font with angular contours and distinctive lines of the letters. Both lines are usually set in plain black, and sometimes the first “A” in the “Gladiator” is replaced by a solid black image of a gladiator with some thin white accents.

Jeep Gladiator Emblem

The heavy uppercase lettering from the primary Jeep Gladiator badge is set in a custom geometric sans-serif font with unique contours of the stable characters. The closest fonts to the one, used in this insignia, are, probably, Accelerator Black Extended, or Comic Opera JNL, but with some significant modifications of the characters’ contours.

As the color palette of the Jeep Gladiator’s visual identity, it is based on a timeless and powerful combination of black and white, which represents strength, stability, and high quality. The thin white details on the emblem (when it is used) add some air and lightness to the brutality of the Gladiator badge.
