Castore is a relatively new name in the primary sports fashion segment. The company Was established only in the middle of the 2010s, however it managed to get to the heights in literally no time. Today it is one of the most promising brands in the industry.
Meaning and history
Castore brand is named after Castore, the twin brother of Polydeucus from Greek and Roman mythology. According to the legends, the brothers performed several feats throughout their lives. After Castore died in battle, Polydevcus begged to be reunited with his brother. Zeus, as a reward for their sincere brotherly love, placed their image in the sky in the constellation Gemini. This “celestial” part of the legend is reflected in the brand’s logo, which features wings.
The young brand Castore had a real breakthrough in 2019 when it was lucky enough to become the official partner of tennis champion Andy Murray. The brand created a unique line of equipment for the athlete and the latter was so delighted that he offered the brand a contract, thanks to which Castore made its way onto the world sports scene.
In 2022, Castore became the technical sponsor of Bayer Leverkusen and Sevilla – the brand’s first contracts in the German and Spanish championships, respectively. A little later, Castore also entered the Italian championship, becoming the official partner of the football club Genoa.
Castore also makes uniforms for English teams such as Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Wolverhampton, as well as Scottish Rangers. The brand also supplies the McLaren Formula One team, as well as the US men’s, women’s, and youth rugby teams.
In 2023, McLaren Racing Team and British sportswear brand Castore announced the extension and expansion of their partnership. And starting in 2024, the company will become a supplier of clothing for McLaren teams in IndyCar, Extreme E, and Formula E.
Castore is a young brand not only because of their age but also because of their outlook. They look for the best solutions for their customers. For example, the company buys fabrics in Italy, designs in England, and produces clothes in environmentally friendly factories in Portugal using 3D printing and seamless technology.
What is Castore?
Castore is the name of a British clothing brand specializing in the production of sports uniforms and equipment. The company was founded in 2015 by brothers Thomas and Philip Beahon, who in their youth were involved in soccer. Today the brand conquers much more than just a football segment.
In terms of visual identity, Castore has managed to combine the mythological and “historical” explanation of its naming with the modern spirit and minimalistic design. The logo, created for the brand in 2015, is still in use today and doesn’t need any modifications to stay actual.
2015 – Today
The Castore logo is a combination of an enlarged elegant emblem and quite a laconic and stable lettering, set in solid black against a white background. The emblem of the brand is a stylized V-shape element with two wings, representing freedom and inspiration. The V in the center is drawn in thick smooth lines, full of elegance and sophistication, which is balanced by the stable geometric lettering, written in the uppercase under the emblem and grounding it.
Font and color
The bold uppercase lettering from the primary logo of the Castore brand is set in a geometric sans-serif typeface with a lot of space between the characters. The closest commercial fonts to the one, used in this insignia, are, probably, Navine or Gineso Titlingtrade, with some minor modifications.
As for the color palette of the Castore visual identity, it is a super minimalistic black-and-white combo, which is all about timeless elegance and high quality.
