In 1996, Woods had just begun his golf career, but the company Nike had already seen a prospect in the guy and became his sponsor. And it turned out to be fantastically right. In just one year Tiger became the leader of the world ranking and remained so for more than ten years. In the same year, 1996, Tiger Woods registered his trademark and presented his first logo.

In 2000, Tiger Woods was named the world’s best golfer. A year later he bolstered his reputation by winning another Oscar as an athlete. For the young Woods, golf became not just a hobby, but a way of life and a living.

Tiger has 93 wins, including 71 in PGA championships. According to the Associated Press, Woods won the title of best golfer in the last 10 years in 2009.

In 2016, Woods performed after 15 months of back treatment but finished 15th out of 18 golfers. Tiger was able to make a triumphant return to the sport only three years later, winning the Masters tournament 14 years after his previous win in that class of competition.

Woods is also in business, simultaneously running golf course design firm TGR Design, events company TGR Live, and restaurant The Woods. The athlete-founded firm TGR Ventures owns stakes in Full Swing, a golf training device startup, hotel software developer Heard and PopStroke, which operates several mini-golf courses.

Woods has also invested in the international hospitality company NEXUS Luxury Collection, whose investors also include singer Justin Timberlake, golfer Ernie Els and the Tavistock Group of British billionaire Joe Lewis.

Who is Tiger Woods?
Tiger Woods is the most famous golf player and one of the three richest sportsmen in the world. Born in 1975, Woods started his career in 1996, and in the same year, he has already signed his first contract with Nike.

In terms of visual identity, Tiger Woods has been pretty constant, and only redesigned his badge once, in 2016, when decided to create the Tiger Woods Ventures company. Before that, the sportsman has been using the logo, designed for his first collaboration with the Nike brand.

Before 2016

Tiger Woods Logo old

The original Tiger Woods logo depicted a geometric banner with no additional lettering. It was a vertically-oriented rectangular badge with the bottom part cut out triangularly, making up a contour, resembling the letter “W”. As for the body of the banner, it had an ornament, forming the letter “T” on it. All elements of the logo were drawn in flat black lines of the same thickness.

2016 – Today

Tiger Woods Logo

The redesign of 2016 has introduced a completely new concept for the Tiger Woods brand. The new badge is built around a simple geometric emblem, composed of three vertically-stretched triangles, set in solid blue, and a modest two-leveled inscription, written under it in the same color. The idea behind the badge was in the emphasis on three main qualities of any sportsman: determination, accuracy, and adaptability. Apart from the clean geometry and a hidden philosophy, the three triangles on the logo resemble three pine trees, making up a forest, or “woods”, as a reference to the celebrity’s surname.
