Meaning and history

Jackson State Tigers Logo history

While the Jackson State Tigers logo used to feature a tiger once, the current version is purely typographic.

On the 1980 shield, the tiger was stepping down from a large blue “J.” On the 1994 logo, the tiger was lying over the large letters “JSU.” On the forefront, the text “Jackson State University” was placed.

In 2006, the Jackson State Tigers logo underwent a complete overhaul. It now features the letters “J,” “S,” and “U” each inside a rectangle. A noble soft shade of blue was adopted.
