The twenty varsity teams representing the University of Illinois at Chicago compete under the name of the UIC Flames.
Meaning and history
1982 – 1996
The 1982 logo is a tall blue frame with a bright red frame placed in its middle. In addition, the word ‘Flames’ itself was present below this emblem in red serif letters with.
1996 – 2010
The 1996 emblem uses a more realistic image of flames – white, with layers of orange and red. They placed it in front of a blue shape – a rounded rectangle with a cropped bottom. Along this diagonally cropped bottom, they placed the team’s name (‘UIC Flames’) in two lines of sans-serif text.
2010 – 2015
Since 1992, the Illinois-Chicago Flames logo has been absolutely consistent in its core imagery. Apart from a subtle modification of the color scheme, the logo has remained unchanged.
2015 – 2020
Both the old and the current emblem feature a stylized flame burning above the lettering “UIC Flames.” In 2008, the palette of the UIC Flames logo grew softer, nobler.
2020 – Today
The 2020 emblem is just the acronym ‘UIC’ from the previous logo. It’s kept as before, but rotated into a horizontal position. The red outlines are also joined into a single background.
Illinois-Chicago Flames basketball
In addition to three appearances in the NCAA Tournaments, the men’s team can boast one National Invitation Tournament appearance, one College Basketball Invitational appearance, and two CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament appearances.
Illinois-Chicago Flames soccer
The men’s soccer team is coached by Sean Phillips, while the head coach of the women’s team is Tom Anagnost.
