Described by Newsweek as “the furry equivalent of Facebook,” FurAffinity (Fur Affinity) is an art community hosting artwork, literature, photos, and audio recordings. In addition to standard furry art, the site features adult art, but one needs to register an account to be able to publish it. With over 20 million monthly visits, it’s considered the best-known furry-centered community.

Meaning and History

FurAffinity Logo history

FurAffinity came into existence in 2005. Its founder was an anonymous user who worked under the pseudonym “Alkora.” From 2007 to 2015, the community belonged to Sean “Dragoneer” Piche through his limited liability company Ferrox Art. It was acquired by the virtual world platform IMVU in 2015, then, in 2021, by Frost Dragon Art, LLC. The company is headquartered in Terre Haute, Indiana.

What is FurAffinity?
FurAffinity is a furry-centric art community working in a similar way as Newgrounds and DeviantArt. It is headquartered in Terre Haute, Indiana.

2005 – 2019

Although the community has gone through at least two complete logo overhauls, there is something that has preserved intact over the two decades of its history. First, we have a paw shape, which has been present starting from the first logo. Then, there’s something to bring about furry texture, in one way or another.

For instance, the original emblem had a ragged right side, which was somehow reminiscent of how a furry animal might look. The overall shape was a bit like a paw. At the center, there was the letter “a,” while the “F” was formed by negative space.

2019 – 2021

The logo showcases the head of Fender, who is a “Ferrox” (part ferret, part fox). The fantastic creature was constructed by White Wolf, which is the moniker of the artist, fursuit-maker, and fursuiter Diana Kellogg. The animal has a cobalt blue necktie and dark brown fur going around his eyes in a mask pattern.

The authors of the logo design are Dragoneer (idea) and K-9 (design). Interestingly, the overall shape of the logo is somewhat reminiscent of a paw.

2021 – present

Here, the paw shape is more prominent than in any other version of the logo. It looks like there was a splash of orange color, and then an animal stepped there, leaving a white paw mark. The moniker of the logo designer is Sciggles, who is described in WikiFur as “a demi-bi, genderqueer, female anthro artist, webmistress, and pegasister.”

Font and Color

For much of its history, the emblem has been orange. The warm, honey-like color looks cozy and soft. Additionally, there is the rainbow version of the 2021 logo, but it doesn’t have the status of the primary logo.
