Dragon Ball is the name of a Japanese manga franchise, which was first released in the middle of the 1980s. The manga was created by Akira Toriyama and was being published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine for the first two years (from 1984).

Dragon Ball consists of five seasons and 807 episodes. This astounding number of episodes tells the story of Goku’s journey from childhood as he trains to become stronger in search of the seven wish-fulfilling dragon balls.

On his journey, Goku meets Bulma. Bulma travels the world in search of the mystical Dragon Pearls. Whoever collects all seven pearls together can summon Shenlong, the great dragon lord, who will grant one wish. and together they embark on a perilous journey: Bulma to collect all seven pearls and make a wish, and Goku to become stronger.

1986 – 1989

The first Dragon Ball logo was created in 1986, for the original manga series. It was a blue and red shadowed inscription in the uppercase of a neat and slightly narrowed sans-serif typeface. The lettering was outlined in black and could be set in one or two levels, accompanied by the Japanese name of the franchise, written on seven yellow circles. This logo stayed in use for the first three years.

1995

The redesign of 1995 has introduced a more vivid and colorful logo version for Dragon Ball. This time the logotype, drawn in a custom typeface, was accompanied by an image of Goku, the main hero of Dragon Ball. The badge was executed in an orange and red color palette and set on a gradient purple-to-blue background, which added freshness to the composition.

1996 – 1998

For the Blue Water series of Dragon Ball, the new logo was designed in 1996. It was a bold orange wordmark inscribed into a very ornate and colorful image of a dragon, intertwining its elongated body with each letter of the logotype. The green and orange badge looked playful and curious, promising the potential views a very interesting experience.

2001 – 2003

Dragon Ball Logo

The Funimation version of the Dragon Ball badge was introduced in 2001. The concept was based on a super bright and intense color palette: a combination of yellow, red, and orange letters in a bold black outline. The “Dragon” part was set in yellow, with the “O” orange, and a red five-pointed star in the center; the ball was set in red and black, with no extras.
