There are almost 20 varsity teams in the athletic program of Providence College, a private Roman Catholic university in Providence, Rhode Island. While the hockey team plays in Hockey East, all the other teams compete in the Big East Conference (NCAA Division I).
Meaning and history
1996 – 2002
The old Providence Friars logo depicted the letters “P” and “C” in black with a banner between them. On the black banner, the word “Friars” in white could be seen.
2002 – 2017
The current logo features the side view of a man’s head with a black hood on it. The head can be used as a standalone logo or paired with the lettering “Providence Friars.”
2017 – Today
It’s essentially the same logo, but without the college name and with a differently-shaped bottom, as a result.
