Meaning and history

Kinect Logo history

The simplicity of the Kinect logo is a perfect compliment for the complicated futuristic innovative brand’s approach. It is a perfect combination for such a powerful company as Microsoft.

What is Kinect?
Kinect is a brand of motion-sensing input devices developed by Microsoft for use with their Xbox gaming console. It uses a combination of cameras, sensors, and software to track the movements of players, allowing for a more immersive and interactive gaming experience. Kinect gained popularity for its ability to recognize gestures and voice commands, enabling users to control games and applications without the need for a physical controller.

2009 – 2010

The Project Natal logo, used before Kinect’s official 2010 launch, showcases a minimalist design with “PROJECT NATAL” in a blocky, uppercase font, rendered in a slightly lighter green hue against a white background. The text’s angular, almost pixelated style hints at the cutting-edge motion-sensing technology Microsoft was developing for its Xbox 360 accessory. This early branding reflects the experimental, futuristic vibe of the project before it evolved into the more polished Kinect identity.

2010 – 2017

The Kinect logo is minimalist and simple. It is composed of an all-caps wordmark in a classic sans typeface and nothing else.

The most interesting element of the logo is its color. Kinect uses purple for its emblem.

Purple color is a symbol of vivid imagination and mystery. That is what the Kinect Technology is about — it opens new edges of gaming and shows the eternity of opportunities.
