In May 2014, Dodge officially introduced powerful modifications of the Challenger coupe with the designation SRT and SRT Hellcat. The name Hellcat is a tribute to the American Grumman F6F Hellcat, a World War II aircraft.
The base Challenger SRT received a number of distinctive exterior details, such as a special-shaped hood, and front splitter, as well as a new rear apron and LED headlights. In 2023, the manufacturer announced that the production of Challenger and Charger would soon be discontinued. However, it was separately noted that the Durango SRT Hellcat will live until at least the 2024 model year.
