Meaning and History
Since its founding as a humble real estate firm in 1906, CBRE has had a lengthy history. Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis is abbreviated as CBRE. The founders’ last names appear in the first two words. When Coldwell Banker purchased the real estate services company Richard Ellis International in 1989, “Richard Ellis” was added. The advancement of its service offerings, mergers, and acquisitions have all contributed to its growth over time. In 2004, the business went public. CBRE has continuously received praise for being a leader in the field.
What is CBRE?
CBRE is a prominent worldwide provider of real estate services. With a wide range of services, the company is a major player in the commercial real estate sector. Its history dates back to the 1900s, and it has evolved significantly over the decades.
???? – 2003
The whole logo is done in one straight line. It has the initials of its founders, CB, followed by a square illustration and “Richard Ellis”. The inscription is done using a bold, san-serif font with even stroke thickness. The square illustration has white, tall buildings on a green background, which perfectly represents the direction of the company’s activities. The same shade of green is used for the inscription. It creates a sense of growth, trustworthiness, and stability, which are important qualities for a real estate company.
2003 – 2011
The updated logo looks assertive and strong. The company continued to use a solid green color palette but changed the shade of the color. The abbreviated name is printed across the top using large, bold characters. A modern, geometric sans-serif font with extended width has been used for this line. Right underneath, there is a line that says “CB Richard Ellis” in all caps using a different, finer font. Both lines are the same width, which creates a cohesive and professional look.
2011 – Today
The previous version was made even more minimalistic. The company kept only the abbreviated version of its name. It still features a font with a clean, geometric sans-serif style and uniform stroke widths. The logo turned out to have a modern appearance. The century-old history of the company allowed it to keep the design simple as the name is well-recognized across the globe.
Font and Color
The logo used before 2003 features a bold, geometric font similar to the Korto Heavy font. After 2003, the logo featured two fonts at once. One of them is a bold, rounded, and geometric font with a modern style similar to the Autobus Omnibus font. The other is Zurich Extended or a similar font. Later, the company switched to just the bold, geometric font, removing the other finer font.
Throughout the years, the company used different shades of green. This color represents growth, renewal, and prosperity and is often used in the real estate industry as it suggests flourishing investments. The green color is also associated with trustworthiness and stability.
