Bloodborne is a game by Hidetaka Miyazaki and one of the PlayStation 4’s major franchises. The action of the game takes place in the city of Yarnam, created in Victorian-Gothic style. All living creatures in this city are infected with a terrible virus that turns them into monsters. And it is with these monsters that you have to fight in the game.
Meaning and history
The plot of the Bloodborne game is set in the city of Yarnam, which is plagued by a mysterious plague. Because of this, the locals gradually lose their human form and turn into monsters. When the monsters become too numerous, the night of hunting is declared, and if the monsters are not destroyed, it will never be daylight in Yarnam again.
The atmosphere in this game is just great, everything is so dark, that it looks like a horror. As such, there is no plot in the game, and this leaves a lot of room for the player’s imagination, which was the original idea of the creators.
Bloodborne’s author, Hidetaka Miyazaki, spent his childhood and adolescence reading English-language books about noble knights, treacherous traitors, brutal murders, and impregnable castles. As Miyazaki himself admitted in an interview, he understood English only fragmentarily, so he had to figure out many elements of what he was reading himself, and in a sense, he became a full-fledged co-author of the text. Miyazaki wanted to convey this feeling of creativity and imagination to all the players.
And also in Bloodborne gamers have a lot to do, because there are 18 bosses in the game, although to pass it is enough to defeat only eight of them.
And despite the fact that the only part of Bloodborne came out in 2015, its universe still lives on today, and by many players, it is still considered by many to be the best PS4 game in its entire cycle of existence and still looks and plays great.
And in 2016, a board game version of Bloodborne: The Card Game was released. The rules were developed by the famous board game creator Eric M. Lang, who came up with A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, Warhammer 40,000: Conquest, Trains and Stations, and many others.
What is Bloodborne?
Bloodborne is the name of a third-person action-adventure RPG from the creators of the Dark Souls series. The action unfolds in a Victorian-era city, where all living creatures are infected with an incomprehensible disease, and the protagonist has to fight them. Overall, Bloodborne is a great game for fans of dark fantasy worlds and complex combat battles.
In terms of visual identity, everything is quite predictable. Gothic architecture inspired not only the very form of Bloodborne but also the style of the game’s logo, which was introduced in 2015 and is still unchanged.
2015 – Today
The Bloodborne logo is based solely on the lettering, executed in the title case of a stylized designer typeface with gothic contours of the characters, written in medium-thick black lines against a transparent background. The creative and elegant font of the inscription doesn’t need any graphical accompaniments, especially considering that the world, shown in the game is too beautiful and picturesque itself.
Font and color
The elegant tile case lettering from the primary logo of the Bloodborne game is set in a custom typeface, which has somewhat in common with such commercial fonts as Mezalia, Vinquetrade, or Vinque Antique, but with significant modifications of the characters’ contours.
As for the color palette of the Bloodborne visual identity, it is deep and dramatic, based on black, which also makes the composition timeless and always actual.
