The history of Balance of Nature, a health supplement company, is closely intertwined with the life and career of its founder, Dr. Douglas Howard. Dr. Howard’s early experiences in the medical field as a teenager, including a transformative experience saving a young girl’s life in an emergency room, deeply influenced his commitment to healthcare and well-being. After obtaining a pre-med education and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, Dr. Howard’s interest in nutrition and health was further shaped during his time in Russia, where he observed the impact of socioeconomic status on health. This experience highlighted the importance of fruits and vegetables in maintaining health, especially in economically disadvantaged communities.
Driven by this realization, Dr. Howard, after returning from Russia and continuing his medical education, began exploring the field of nutrition more intensely. He was initially focused on discovering a singular, powerful phytochemical that could benefit health. However, he soon recognized the complexity and abundance of phytochemicals in fruits and vegetables and the importance of consuming these foods in their whole form for optimal health.
In 1997, Dr. Howard founded Balance of Nature, with a focus on providing high-quality, all-natural fruit and vegetable supplements. The products, developed by Dr. Howard, contain freeze-dried fruits and vegetables, ensuring the availability of a variety of 31 different fruits and vegetables daily in a convenient form. Balance of Nature’s offerings have expanded to include capsules containing ten servings of fruits and vegetables, as well as a Fiber and Spice powder, designed to support gut health and overall well-being.
