The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee sponsors slightly less than 15 teams competing under the name of the Milwaukee Panthers.
Meaning and history
Since at least 1965, the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers logo has featured a panther of some kind. While it had a cartoonish look on the old emblem (1965-1984), the newer ones feature a determined and menacing creature. The logo that has been in use from 2002 to 2010 featured a black-and-white panther inside a gold ellipse with black trim. You could see the full name of the university and the athletic program.
The current emblem is less cluttered and features a more refined panther.
