The side view of the bird’s head has been the centerpiece of the North Florida Ospreys logo for more than two decades.
Meaning and history
1998
In 1998, the athletic logo of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville featured the bird’s head inside a blue circle with white filling.
1999 – 2009
In 1999, the bird was redrawn and the lettering “UNF Athletics” appeared below it.
2010 – 2013
In 2010, the UNF Ospreys logo went through another update. The old wordmark was replaced by the words “North” and “Florida” placed above and below the bird respectively.
2014 – Today
In 2014, the wordmark was revisited. As a result, it grew narrower and moved above the bird. Eventually, it was removed altogether.
