Meaning and history

Texas Longhorns Logo history

The Texas Longhorns logo is among the most recognizable intercollegiate athletic logos in the US. It was introduced in 1961 and has not been modified ever since, which is a remarkable example of a consistent brand identity.
The logo was unveiled during the game in Berkeley, California that took place on September, 23, 1961. It was featured on the new helmets of the players. And yet, the university’s historians say that, in fact, the longhorn head had been in use as a symbol across the school for decades.
