Street Fighter is a legendary arcade fighting game with a side view. In the game, the player has to fight in a series of battles against ten computer opponents, or win a single battle with another player. All battles take place in three rounds, in which one must defeat the opponent within 30 seconds. If the allotted time expires before one of the players is defeated, the winner of the round is the player with more health left. Of course, each new game release brought something new and, sometimes, innovative to the game.

Meaning and History

Street Fighter Logo history

Capcom’s Street Fighter series began in 1987 with the first Street Fighter. The first part of the Street Fighter series was revolutionary. It was with it that the history of the fighting genre began, and the Capcom studio became its king.  It gained immense popularity and recognition after “Street Fighter II” was presented in 1991. Since then, the series has grown to a level that many thought was unattainable in video games. It has expanded in so many different directions, including animated series, movies, and international championships. By now, there have been so many games in the Street Fighter series that it’s hard to remember them all. Street Fighter IV is one of the most highly rated installments of the Street Fighter series, with some publications ranking it among the best games of all time.

1987 – Today

The original version features the name printed in a bold color palette and an inscription placed on a diagonal. The letters have a gradient that goes from red at the top to orange, then yellow and white at the very tip. Each character is outlined with a thin black border. The black shadow behind and dynamic lettering conveys a sense of action and intensity. The game roughness and fighting genre are supported with the uneven terminals that resemble brushstrokes. The overall design is eye-catching and energetic, embodying the spirit of the iconic fighting game series.

1991 – Today

The updated logo was presented alongside “Street Fighter II”. It had the same graffiti style and even the color palette stayed the same. The only difference is that the colors got flipped, so the red was at the bottom and the yellow was placed at the top. The logo looks lighter as the shadow is no longer as dramatic. Moreover, the word “Street” had the horizontal bars in the “T”s raised above the other characters to create one, smooth curve. This added even more dynamics to the design. In general, though, the logo stayed recognizable although it no longer looked as daring.

2016 – Today

This logo has the same vibe as the original version thanks to the addition of a black base. The name is rendered in a stylized, sharp-edged font with a slightly angular design. The designer transformed the red and yellow gradient into a fiery or explosive graphic element that underscores the theme of combat and martial arts. The name is still printed in two lines, but this time it has a thin red contouring line slightly indented outwards going around it.

The logo has been modified very minimally. The only thing that the franchise has done was the removal of the black, rectangular base. The name has been cut out following the red outline. This created a three-dimensional appearance and gave the logo some depth. Moreover, the black base did not distract from the name as much as it did earlier.

Font and Color

Street Fighter Emblem

The color palette includes vibrant shades of red, orange, yellow, and white, which enhance its visual impact. The red symbolizes the powerful fights and competitive nature of the game, while the yellow stands for the energy and excitement that fill the game. There is also black, which adds a bold and aggressive touch.

The logo uses a bold font with torn edges. It has the same style as the Brutal Font Pro and Martyric by Mans Greback. It has a graffiti style with brushstroke look and mysterious, aggressive feel.
