Meaning and history
1978 – 1996
The Sam Houston State Bearkats logo introduced in 1987 was dominated by the stylized head of a cat. The creature was wearing an exceptionally wicked expression on its muzzle. On the background, there was the map of the Texas state.
1997 – 2020
In 1997, the team introduced a totally different emblem. In comparison with its predecessor, it was very refined. This time, most of the surface was occupied by the large letters “S” and “H” positioned diagonally. In the forefront, there was a stylized cat’s paw. The logo was dominated by orange, but the shade was slightly different than on the previous version.
2020 – Today
In 2020, the brand designers decided to change the logo. They removed outlines as well as brightened the letters and the cat’s paw. The letters were renovated as well. They got an angular typeface with strong straight style.
