Oakland Golden Grizzlies Logo

While a grizzly bear can be seen on the athletic logo of Oakland University for more than two decades, the way it is depicted has been changing with the years.

Meaning and history

Oakland Golden Grizzlies Logo history

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies logo introduced in 2002 featured the bear in full height. He was crawling over the letters “O” and “U.” In 2009, the team opted for a logo where only the bear’s muzzle could be seen. The result was more emotional as the muzzle or a face is where the emotions of any creature can be seen most clearly.

The latest update took place in 2012. There were just a couple of strokes added or removed here and there, and a slight shift in the palette.
