The athletic program of Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, has a dynamic and modern logotype.
Meaning and history
2000 – 2013
Since 2000, the Murray State Racers logo has featured a racer with the large yellow “M” on the background. However, in 2014, the emblem went through a modification resulting in a slightly different style.
The racer on the previous version sloped slightly to the right. The “M” was italicized, which created a certain visual harmony with the sloped racer.
2014 – Today
On the current Murray State Racers logo, the horse and the racer are straight, as is the “M.” The outline of the letter is now bolder, and there is not only dark blue trim, but white, too. This helps to add some depth. The word “Racers,” which could be seen on the previous version, has disappeared.
Murray State Racers baseball
The baseball team, which was established in 1924, is currently coached by Mitch Stewart.
Murray State Racers basketball
The men’s basketball team of Murray State University is coached by Matt McMahon. They have appeared in the NCAA Tournament on 17 occasions, in the National Invitation Tournament on eight occasions, the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament on one occasion, and in the NAIA Tournament on seven occasions.
