There seems to be something old-fashioned and primitive about the Mercer Bears logo.
Meaning and history
Either it is the expression of the bear’s muzzle, the unnatural way it is placed over the “M” or just the palette, the emblem does not seem very eye-pleasing. As a rule of thumb, if a living creature is depicted on a sports logo, it should have something aggressive or menacing about it. The bear on the emblem of the athletic teams of Mercer University looks as if it is being tortured. Unlike quite a few other sports emblems, you would hardly wear this one just because it looks good. One has to be a true fan of the university to wear the Bears’ merchandise.
Nevertheless, we should still point out that the Mercer Bears logo is bright and memorable.
