The University of Louisiana at Lafayette sponsors 16 varsity teams playing under the name of Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.
Meaning and history
In 2000, the athletic program adopted a roundel emblem. The old Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns logo featured fleur-de-lis, which was a pretty obvious choice as this stylized flower is the official state symbol of Louisiana.
You cannot see the fleur-de-lis on the current version of the emblem, though – only the name of the team. The typography, however, has remained the same as on the previous Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns logo.
