George Mason Patriots are the common name for 22 men’s and women’s athletic clubs ofGeorge Mason University in Virginia, the United States. The clubs compete in the first division of the NCAA in such sports disciplines as Basketball, Baseball, Crosscountry, Tennis, Soccer, and many others.

George Mason Patriots program is also a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, with the men’s volleyball team attendingthe Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, and the wrestling club a part of the Mid-American Conference.

1982 – 2004

The original logo of the George Mason Patriots athletic program was introduced in 1982, and featured a simple patriotic composition in a bright green and yellow color palette. The badge of the teams was composed of a graphical emblem, depicting a solid green five-pointed star with two horizontally-oriented yellow ribbons, coming out of it to the right. The emblem was placed above a classy serif “George Mason” lettering in green.

2005 – Today

Both the current George Mason Patriots logo and the previous one convey the patriotic theme with the help of a star design. On the old logo, the star was flat and green. There were two yellow ribbons flowing to the right and the lettering “George Mason” below.

The current logo, which was introduced in 2005, has preserved the star theme. Yet now, the star is black and yellow. It has some depth and a tail behind. The word “Mason” dominates the George Mason Patriots logo.

The men’s basketball program is arguably the most known athletic team of George Mason University. They have competed in the NCAA tournament six times. The Patriots have played in the National Invitation Tournament four times and have made two appearances in the College Basketball Invitational.
