Fight Club is the name of a movie by David Fincher, which was released in 1999. The movie is fully based on Chuck Palahniuk’s novel, telling the story of the Narrator (Edward Norton), who gets to meet Tyler (Brad Pitt), a member of the fight club, and their further relationships. The book was released in 1996, and three years later, in 1999, the legendary movie saw the light.

Meaning and history

Chuck Palahniuk’s book “Fight Club” was published in 1996 and was by no means a bestseller. The first hardcover edition sold less than 5 thousand copies. And, according to some reports, half of this edition and for a long time dusted in the backyard of Palanick’s house.

The novel “Fight Club” made fun of materialism and exposed the problem of lack of masculinity. It was written a few years after the emergence of the “men’s movement” based on masculinity and aggression and therefore became relevant to its time.

The book immediately fell into the hands of producers Ross Grayson Bell and Joshua Donen, who took a strong interest in the author’s idea. So, after some time, Chuck Palanick sold the rights to screen his book to the studio Fox 2000 Pictures for 10 thousand dollars.

Then the studio began to look for a suitable director and after a few blunders, producers came to mind the figure of David Fincher. This was the beginning of one of the most iconic films of the last century.

Speaking of which, the adaptation of “Fight Club” was a rare case when the writer was not only satisfied with the work of adaptors but also recognized that the changes improved the source material. And that’s worth a lot.

Fight Club Logo

The text-based Fight Club visual identity was designed at the end of the 1990s but looks like it was created today, as it is very modern and progressive, despite the absence of any graphical details and ornaments.

The unique custom wordmark is executed in a bold italicized sans-serif and set in two levels, with the letters of the upper one slightly smaller than the ones from the bottom level.

When placed one above another, the letters of the inscription merge, and it makes the whole image smoother and evokes a sense of unity and balance.

Font and color

Fight Club Font

The Fight Club logo, which can be executed in two various color palettes, black and red, uses a simple sans-serif font and modernizes it with simple techniques. The font the logotype is based on looks very similar to Ramston Condensed Italic or Sugo Pro Display Italic.

The most unique features of the inscription are the shortened upper part of the letter “G”, the bottom part of the “C”, and the vertical bar of the “B”. The upper part of the “B” is elongated and merged into “U”.

When executed in monochrome, the logo looks simple yet chic, ready to be placed on any poster or even fashion item. When it comes to the red inscription, it can be put on a white or pink background, representing passion, desperation, and power.
