Meaning and history
Travel between European cities is provided by different carriers, however, one of the most famous high-speed trains in Europe is Eurostar. In addition, it is still the only railroad company that operates high-speed passenger rail transportation between London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam through an underground tunnel under the English Channel. Eurostar’s most popular route is a direct flight from London to Paris. The journey takes just over 2 hours and the train runs daily except December 25.
Thus, traveling by Eurostar trains is extremely popular due to the fact that it is economical not only in terms of financial costs but also time. Eurostar company on its routes uses high-speed electric trains Class 373 Eurostar E300 and Class 374 Eurostar E320, reaching speeds of 300-320 km/h respectively.
Eurostar was originally created in 1994 as a partnership between the National Railway Companies of France (SNCF), Belgium (SNCB) and Eurostar UK. Following several previous attempts at restructuring, further negotiations to establish an independent venture company, Eurostar International, with three national shareholders (SNCF, SNCB, and London & Continental Railways) were successful in early 2010.
This restructuring was followed by a major Eurostar visual identity redesign. But this was not the only change in the company’s logo.
1994 – 2011
The original logo of the Eurostar company was designed in 1994 and has been in use for almost twenty years. It was a solid dark-green rectangular badge in a bright yellow outline, with delicate and elegant lowercase lettering, written across it in a bold and started cursive typeface, using the same shade of yellow as the frame. The wordmark was accompanied by three horizontal wavy lines, with the one in the middle featuring a shorter length, and a stretched solid yellow five-pointed star in the upper right corner.
2011 – 2023
The redesign of 2011 has significantly changed the look of the Eurostar logo, adopting three-dimensional elements and a completely different color palette. The new badge was based on an enlarged voluminous lowercase “E” in glossy silver gradients, with an elongated wavy line combing out of it, and a delicate and strict uppercase sans-serif wordmark, written in thin blue bars under the wave.
2023 – Today
The new logo was adopted by the Eurostar company in 2023. The badge, created by the DesignStudio agency, is executed in a bright blue and white color palette, with the slanted lowercase wordmark accompanied by a sharp and elegant geometric emblem, depicting a star with thin elongated peaks, inscribed into a frame made of a ring with an open contour. The sharpness of the graphical element is supported by the sharp ends of the bars in sleek custom lettering.
Font and color
The bold and fancy lowercase lettering from the primary logo of the Eurostar coolant is set in a slanted sans-serif typeface, which is La Pontaise. The main characteristics of this font are narrowed and sharpened ends of the thick geometric bars.
As for the color palette of the Eurostar visual identity, it is based on an intense and friendly shade of blue, which not only evokes a sense of professionalism and confidence c but also represents a progressive approach of the company.
