Meaning and history

Eastern Michigan Eagles logo history

In 1929, the team adopted a logo featuring the side view of a Native American and a circle with the text “Hurons.” In 1991, it was replaced by a black-and-white eagle flying over the lettering “Eagles.” The 1995 logo featured the large “E” with a cartoonish eagle on the forefront.
After two more notable modifications (in 2002 and 2003), Eastern Michigan Eagles logo acquired its current form – the green capital “E.”

The Eastern Michigan University sponsors men’s and women’s basketball teams. The men’s team has competed in four NCAA Division I tournaments and reached the Sweet Sixteen in 1991. The women’s team started playing in 1977.

The team was fielded in 1891. Since then, it has achieved five undefeated seasons. While the Eagles are often named among the worst Division I FBS schools, they had their comparatively successful period of time from 1925 through 1939.
