Sony PlayStation 3 is a classic home console. The console offers a variety of games. Many famous series were born or acquired recognizable features on this console. Meaning and History
Sony developed the console in 2006 and it became part of the seventh generation of gaming consoles. Although it was a premium console and became a real technological phenomenon of the time, now its features are not as impressive compared to new devices. Nonetheless, all the released titles work well on any version of the console and many fans of PS3 games still own the console. Sony does not forget about PS3, either. During its life cycle, the console has changed three times. Not only was the design modified, but also the internal components. The developers improved the power consumption parameters and worked on the reliability of the hardware. The console was remembered for its abundance of high-quality exclusives, some of the coolest games of that time and in the industry as a whole. In February 2024, the company released an update that improved the performance of the system despite the fact that games for the console have not been released for several years, and its active support ended in April 2022.
What is PS3?
PS3 is one of the most important consoles in history. Sony has sold more than 87 million copies worldwide. Some games for it laid the foundation for important series or went further into pop culture – they are used to make high-budget films and TV series.
2006 – 2009
Shortened version of the console name is printed across using a bold, geometric font with italicized characters and slightly arched horizontal strokes. The “3” is stylized to match the aesthetic of the “P” and “S”, creating a cohesive image. The full name is printed using the same font and all caps right underneath. The characters are significantly smaller to make the two lines the same length. There is still wide spacing between each letter, which reflects the confident position of the product. The overall design looks solid and compact.
2009 – 2017
The new logo, which was created to present the Slim version of the console, features a stylized “PS3” design that is sleek and modern. The strokes are smooth and flowing, and there is a lot of spacing between each character. The designer used the same elements for the “P” and number “3,” which created a balance, almost symmetric image. The full name is added at the bottom using a small, sans-serif typeface. Overall, the logo embodies the cutting-edge technology and entertainment focus of the PlayStation 3 console.
Font and Color
The black color of the logos conveys a high-tech and sophisticated feel. It does a great job reflecting the solid position of the product and its premium rating. Moreover, the use of a classic black allowed the creators to create a truly timeless logo.
The original logo uses a font based on the Mata T-26 font designed by Greg Samat. The smooth, bold strokes convey a sense of reliability and smooth work of the device. For the updated logo, the designer used two different fonts. The abbreviated name is printed using a custom font, which can be replicated using fonts such as Slim Play. The full name uses Helvetica Neue font.
