Gran Turismo is a realistic racing simulator with first and third-person views. Gran Turismo 7, for instance, features classic cars and cutting-edge supercars, all recreated in meticulous detail. Each car handles differently and offers a unique experience as one races across 90 tracks, including classic routes from GT history, with dynamically changing weather conditions. All the cars in the game are absolutely real. Gran Turismo has always focused on the world that is outside the gaming industry. In fact, it brought fame to many brands and car models and had cars designed specifically for the game.
Meaning and History
Japanese Kazunori Yamauchi came up with the idea for GT in 1992. In an era when 2D cars drove across screens with sound coming from a PC speaker, Kazunori dreamed of making the most convincing car simulator. It took five years to realize this dream: the first Gran Turismo was released on PlayStation in late 1997. Gran Turismo 2 came out two years later. In 2008, GT Academy was launched: a joint project with Nissan to find the fastest Gran Turismo players. They were given the chance to prove themselves behind the wheel of real cars. Gran Turismo Sport (2017) is the next part of the Gran Turismo racing simulator. It is an official partner of the FIA – the International Automobile Federation. GT Sport is the first game that is recognized as part of the real world of motorsports. Over the years, the main thing has not changed: Gran Turismo remains a 100% original game that changes along with its creator.
What is Gran Turismo?
Gran Turismo is one of the most successful PlayStation series known for its realistic driving simulation, extensive car collection, and detailed graphics. Gran Turismo has had a significant impact on gaming and car culture, often being credited with popularizing car tuning and motorsport among video game players.
1997 – 2009
The Gran Turismo logo features a stylized representation of the letters “G” and “T,” which stand for “Gran Turismo.” The letters are done in blue and red which give the logo a bold and striking appearance. They have a smooth and curved shape, which gives the logo a dynamic feel. The full name is added right under the initials, which frame it above and on the left.
2009 – 2013
The logo looks almost identical to the one designed back in 1997. The designer decided to add a touch of glamour and modernity by using a shiny, metallic finish for the monogram. The shades of red and blue were also adjusted to create a richer and more sophisticated impression. This logo was introduced with Gran Turismo PSP.
2013 – Today
In 2013, it was decided to use a black-and-white version. Although it partially lost its identity, the design acquired a more modern and sleek appearance. The monochrome color palette also ensured that the logo looked relevant even many years later.
Font and Color
The different logo versions use the same bold, condensed, and oblique font with tight spacing. The thick, slanted strokes give it a strong and dynamic appearance. The font resembles a modified version of Helvetica Neue LT Std 87 Heavy Condensed Oblique font or HarvestItal Regular font so the leg of the “R” does not curve upwards.
The original color palette features red, blue, and white in addition to classic black. The color palette is meant to evoke a sense of excitement and a passion for automotive racing, aligning with the game’s focus on realism and car culture. It was switched to a monochrome black color palette in 2013. This gave the logo a timeless and sophisticated feel.
