Meaning and history
The history of the air carrier dates back to 1970. At that time, the owners of Oman International Services merged with the owners of Gulf Air, an airline from Bahrain, and showed interest in air transportation.In 1981, renamed OAS (Oman Aviation Services), the company becomes a joint stock company. A year later, in 1982, OAS made its first flight as an independent carrier. The company got its current name only in 1993.
Today Oman Air is a member of the national Arab Airways Organization (AACO), the international associations IATA (International Air Transport Association) and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization). Membership in international organizations ensures the safety and high level of service to Oman Air customers.Oman Air is not a member of any aviation alliances.
What is Oman Air?
Oman Air is the name of the Oman’s national airline, which serves domestic and international passenger and cargo flights, as well as charter flights. Its aircrafts are based at Muscat International Airport (MCT). The company’s management headquarters is located in the same city. The airline is headed by Peter Hill.
Before 2008
Before 2008, the company used a completely different logo, which was by far brighter and more cluttered. It comprised an intricate design inspired by the cockpit of an aircraft. It was grey, while the name of the company and two stripes below were red and green.
2008 – Today
The highlight of the current Oman Air logo is an abstract symbol, which can be interpreted as a bird’s wing, the flame of the torch, or just a dynamic swoosh or whirl. Below, comes the name of the airline in Arabic (top) and English. The design is silver and gold.
Font and Color
The stable and elegant lettering from the primary badge of Oman Air is set in the uppercase of an italicized modern sans-serif font, which brilliantly balanced the sophisticated above inscription. The closest fonts to the one, used in this insignia, are, probably, Address Sans Pro Xt Black Italic, or Eurostile Black Italic.
As for the color palette of the Oman Air visual identity, it was based on a chic and luxurious combination of gold and silver; which represents the reliability of the company and it’s attention to detail and quality. At the same time; this color scheme makes the air carrier stand out in the list of its competitors.
