Monsta X made its debut at a showcase festival called Melon Premiere, where the guys performed live songs, one of which was No Exit. The day after the May 2015 performance, Starship Entertainment released the EP Trespass and presented the first official video.

The loud and brutal name of the band has more than just one explanation. In one of the interviews, the members of the group revealed the secret of the threatening phrase “MONSTA X”. It has two meanings. The first is “Monsters on the K-pop Stage” and “My Star”. In translation from the French “Mon” means “my” and “sta” is consonant with the English word “star”. The “X” sign stands for mystery and also adds some strength and boldness to the name and the logo of the band.

What is Monsta X?
Monsta X is the name of a young, but already popular Korean boy’s band, which performs in the hip-hop genre. The group consists of seven guys, who were chosen from twelve participants of the South Korean tv show “No Mercy”. The competition was organized by Starship Entertainment, a large reputable group.

In terms of visual identity, Monsta X has been pretty consistent, even though the logo of the group was redesigned in 2019, it still kept the initial idea and style, creating a more modern and refined look, reflecting the progress of the band.

2015 – 2019

The first Monsta X badge, designed in 2015, featured a combination of an elegant emblem, with the stylized “MX” abbreviation set in a custom gothic-styled typeface, with the characters vertically merged. The emblem was accompanied by a lowercase wordmark with the full name of the band, written under it in an ornate typeface, also in black. This version of the logo was in use by the band for almost four years.

2019 – Today

Monsta X Logo

The redesign of 2019 has modernized the initial idea behind the logo of the Monsta X badge. The new concept is based on a narrowed and sharp letter “X” enclosed between two vertical lines of the same thickness. On the whole, the composition resembles the letter “M” in its shape, due to the diagonal cuts of the lines’ ends. The emblem is accompanied by the name of the band, which is now written in the uppercase of a geometric sans-serif typeface. As for the color palette, it has remained untouched.

The simple yet modern uppercase lettering from the primary Monsta C logo is set in a clean and distinctive sans-serif typeface with strict minimalistic shapes of the characters. The closest fonts to the one, used in this insignia, are, probably, Gambler Gothic Regular, or Din Condensed Variable, with some slightly noticeable modifications of the contours.

As for the color palette of the Monsta X visual identity, it is based on a plain yet powerful monochromatic scheme, with all elements set in at black lines against a white background.
