Maya is a 3D-graphic designing software, created in 1998. Today the program has its versions for Mac, Windows, and Linux and is owned by Autodesk. Maya is available only in three languages but has users all over the globe.
Meaning and history
The original Maya logo and the one we all know today are two completely different styles. The software has undergone three major redesigns throughout its history.
1999 – 2006
The very first Maya logo was created in 1999 and was fully based on the Mayan inscriptions — the customarily drawn wordmark features ornate curved lines, which were placed on a two-tone background, but later the company started using the monochrome palette.
2007 – 2013
In 2017 the style was changed dramatically. The “Autodesk Maya” wordmark in two different typefaces was complemented by a Webern dragon emblem on its left. The logo still kept the monochrome palette but looked completely different.
2013 – 2015
The prototype of the current logo was designed in 2013. The turquoise three-dimensional emblem was a stylized letter “M”. The “Autodesk Maya” inscription, placed on its right, now featured the same typeface, but with different thickness.
2016 – 2022
The 3D “M” was refined, keeping the turquoise and gray color palette, now it looks stronger and more confident. The typeface of the wordmark was also slightly modified and the “Maya” lettering in all capitals now gained a bolder and more powerful contour.
2022 – Today
The company has completely redrawn all the logos for its products and Maya was no exception. Its logo had the same style, only a different color for the emblem to the left of the name. It was a grayish blue with a white initial on it. For the name, the company went for a basic, sans-serif font and capitalized only the first letter.
