Marriott Bonvoy is the loyalty program for Marriott International. Members of Marriott Bonvoy can earn points through various activities such as staying at Marriott properties, dining, and utilizing partnered services. These points can then be redeemed for free nights at hotels, upgrades, and a variety of experiences, such as events, travel packages, and merchandise. The program offers different membership tiers, with each tier providing additional benefits.
Meaning and History
Marriott Bonvoy was launched on February 13, 2019, as the unified loyalty program for Marriott International’s hotels. The creation of Marriott Bonvoy stemmed from the merger of Marriott International and Starwood Hotels & Resorts, which was completed in the fall of 2016. Prior to the merger, Marriott operated the Marriott Rewards program, while Starwood had its own loyalty program called Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG).
What is Marriot Bonvoy?
Since its launch, Marriott Bonvoy has continued to evolve, adding new features and benefits to enhance the travel experience for its members. The program is designed to enhance the travel experience for loyalty members and foster brand loyalty among guests.
2000 – 2008
The original logo reflects a sense of sophistication, warmth, and global reach, representing the loyalty program’s focus on providing exceptional travel experiences for its members. This was achieved through the use of warm beige and red colors and the addition of a globe to the logo. The brand name, though, is printed in red using a distinctive font.
2008 – 2016
The updated logo no longer has a globe or round emblem to the left of the name. Instead, the designer added a dotted line across the bottom with dots getting smaller toward the outer edge. In addition, the two lines are now centered, which creates a balanced brand image. The “Rewards” line is printed using a larger font to highlight that this is not a logo of the actual hotels, but rather the Rewards Program. The new sky blue color emphasizes the brand’s commitment to travel and hospitality.
2016 – 2019
The Marriott Rewards logo features the same sleek design that reflects the brand’s commitment to hospitality and customer service. The only notable update was the change in the shade of blue. It is more saturated and brighter in this version. This surely makes it more visible and better grabs the attention.
2019 – Today
Designed by Mother Design, the Marriott Bonvoy logo features a modern design. It includes the word “Bonvoy” in a sleek, sans-serif font, accompanied by the distinctive “o” that is underlined with an orange line. Overall, the logo captures the essence of the Marriott Bonvoy program, emphasizing its role in providing exceptional travel and leisure experiences to its members.
Font and Color
In the original and subsequent logos, the designer uses a distinctive brand font for “Marriott”. The “Rewards” part is printed using a sans-serif typeface similar to Futura Now Headline Medium font. Later, this portion uses a modified version of Rosario 500 by Google Fonts or similar font. The font in the logo introduced in 2019 is simple and elegant, reflecting a contemporary style. It features an updated Marriot logo combined with “Bonvoy” printed using a font similar to Intro SemiBold Caps font or Noah Text Bold font.
The original color scheme is composed of black, red, and beige. The first two colors convey a sense of luxury and strength. The beige color creates a sense of comfort and relaxation. Later, the company switched to blue to create a trustworthy, stability, loyalty, confidence, and freedom brand image. In 2019, the color palette is closer to that of the original. It has black as the main color and some orange for a friendly accent.
