The band formed in Florida, in 1964 when five students from a Jacksonville school formed the group “The Noble Five”. The lineup got its permanent name when at one of their performances the guys introduced themselves as “Leonard Skinner Band”, a joke addressed to their “favorite” gym teacher, Leonard Skinner, who often kicked them out for not conforming to the school dress code. In 1973, the band was picked up by Al Kooper. The band soon released their first album. However, the long-awaited popularity did not come until 1974, the year when the second album was released. The song Sweet Home Alabama from it became a hit. The band recorded a total of 14 studio albums and 6 live albums.
