Meaning and history
The Lipscomb Bisons, the athletic teams of Lipscomb University, were initiated under the university’s auspices, established in 1891 in Nashville, Tennessee. The university itself was named in honor of David Lipscomb, a key figure in the Churches of Christ denomination. What is Lipscomb Bisons?
Lipscomb Bisons represent the athletic division of Lipscomb University, competing at the NCAA Division I level. They embody a fusion of competitive sportsmanship and academic integrity, making them a notable entity in collegiate sports.
2002 – 2011
On the 2002 logo, there was the bison’s head under the arched lettering “Lipscomb.” The bison was brown with white, yellow, and black accents, while the letters were predominantly purple.
2012 – 2013
On the 2012 emblem, the interlocked letters “L” and “U” could be seen. The monogram was yellow with a purple outline.
2014 – Today
On the current Lipscomb Bisons logo, which was introduced in 2014, only the large “L” in yellow and purple remained.
