Meaning and history
Although the name Iran Khodro has become known internationally not that long ago, the company has been on the local market since the beginning of the 1960s. The Iranian automaker was founded in 1962, and during the first decades, the company specialized in the production of Peugeot cars under license. The first own model, the Iran Khodro Paikan, was developed based on Peugeot 504 and became one of the most popular cars in Iran and Iraq.
Since1990, Iran Khodro switches to the production of Peugeot 405 models, and in 1995, a model based on the Peugeot 205 was introduced, which was positioned as the cheapest new car in the Middle East.
By 1999, Iran Khodro has become the largest car manufacturer in its region, and it keeps its position today.
