AstroWorld is a music album released by Travis Scott in 2018 that broke every record possible, as every track from this album set over 100 million listens online. American performer and producer Travis Scott was born in 1991 in the suburbs of Houston. After graduating from college, he moved to New York City to build his career.

Meaning and history

Travis Scott’s debut mixtape was “Owl Pharaoh,” released in 2013. In 2015 his first studio album “Rodeo” was released, which became a hit and reached number three on the Billboard 200 chart and number one on the Top Billboard Rap Album. The single “Antidot” reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became his first platinum song. In 2016, Travis Scott’s next studio album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, reached the top spot on the Billboard 200. In August 2018, the artist’s third album, titled AstroWorld, was released.

AstroWorld is named after the now-closed amusement park Travis Scott visited in Texas. In a Rolling Stone article earlier this year, Scott shares details of the now-defunct AstroWorld amusement park: “There were rides like Free Fall Underground, Greased Lightning, Superman,” he recalls. – “It was kind of a way of life – all this fantasy, make-believe stuff.”

There are vocals from Frank Ocean and James Blake, Drake, Kid Cudi, Australian psychedelics Tame Impala, the legendary Stevie Wonder, Juice WRLD, The Weeknd, Pharrell Williams, John Mayer, Thundercat, 21 Savage, Swae Lee, and Migos.

The work on AstroWorld lasted for two years. During that time Travis released only three singles and hardly recorded any guest verses, concentrating on recording the single. The rapper put the final touches in Hawaii, where the whole production team and the closest artists gathered.

What is AstroWorld?
AstroWorld is the album of Travis Scott, which was released in August 2018 and immediately became a legend. A month after its release it was declared platinum – it was considered to have sold 1 million copies. In less than four months the record went double platinum, and a few months later it went triple platinum.

In terms of visual identity, AstroWorld is unique and looks very balanced despite being overloaded with colors and additional elements. The lettering has some of the characters replaced by graphical symbols, but they all make sense and look just right where they are.

AstroWorld Logo

The AstroWorld logo is composed of bold uppercase lettering in a series designer typeface, with each of the characters set in its color, and both letters “O” replaced by two images: a three-dimensional planet Earth with a red smiling face drawn on it for the “O” in the middle, and an acid-green spiral, which is actually a composition of four rounded square outlines, set like the Russian doll, for the second “O”. The number of colors used for this logo and the funky shapes of the elements reflect the roots of the album’s name, resembling an amusement park identity.

Font and color

AstroWorld Emblem

The bold designer lettering from the AstroWorld logo is set in a unique handwritten font, which is somewhat close to such commercial typefaces as Fredericksburg NF, Rock Concert JNL Regular, or even Neophyte Regular, but with significant modifications of some characters.

As for the color palette of the AstroWord visual identity, it is very intense and consists of nine shades — one for each character, and gradients of blue and green, used for the globe, replacing the central “O”.
