Workplace is the name of a Meta (former Facebook) tool, which was launched in 2016, with the beta version tested in 2015. The service is a kind of corporate social network in which employees of one or more companies communicate with each other on business matters.
Meaning and history
Workplace is an online platform created for corporate communication by Facebook (now Meta) in 2016. During the first years the service was partially free for the users, but starting in 2020 it is only available for payment. The tool is designed for all the participants of the corporate structure and simplified the communication processes within the company.
The service became extremely popular after the COVID-19 pandemic, as most of the companies’ employees started working remotely, and the Workplace is a great help in keeping the team together.
What is Workplace?
Workplace is a Meta corporate social network, launched in 2016, which helps company employees solve work issues in a simplified online mode. Former Facebook Workplace does not require the employees’ personal accounts to be linked to professional ones.
Although the service was created by Facebook, which got rebranded into Meta in 2020, the visual identity of Workplace hasn’t undergone any dramatic changes. Only the very first badge, designed for the beta version of the network was something different, but it didn’t stay for long.
2015 – 2016
The initial logo for the network was designed in 2015, for the trial version of the service, which was called Facebook at Work. The badge was executed in a corporate Facebook style and color palette — with the bold white lowercase “F” set on the solid blue briefcase. There was also another version of the logo, with the blue letter on a white square with rounded angles, set over a blue background on the left from the white “Work” inscription.
2016 – 2019
The redesign of 2016 was held after the name of the platform was changed to Workplace by Facebook, and the service became available for use. The new badge features a lowercase “Workplace” lettering in a bold and simple sans-serif typeface with full-shaped letters. The first “W” was styled like @ symbol, having its right bar elongated and curved around the letter to the left.
2020 – 2021
In 2020 the service changed its name to Workplace From Facebook, so the logo was slightly refined. The badge from 2016 got enlarged and slightly emboldened, and gained a lightweight gray underline, saying “From Facebook”, where the first part was written in the lowercase with thin lines, and the second — in bold capitals.
2021
The redesign of 2021 brought a new color palette to the Workplace logo. Now the main logotype was set in bright purple, while the underline remained gray. Although the bottom line of the badge got a bit smaller and shifted to the right, compared to solid lettering in the center from the previous version. This logo stayed in use for just a few months.
2021 – Today
After the Facebook rebranding into Meta in 2021, the Workplace logo was changed too. But it was only about the bottom line of the badge, where the uppercase “Facebook” was replaced by the purple infinity symbol followed by “Meta” lettering, both set in purple, while “From” remained gray.
