Towson Tigers Logo history

Towson University is the largest university in the Baltimore area and the second largest university in the University System of Maryland. The institution is based on the School of Education, established in 1866 and in 1967 merged with 10 state institutions, receiving the current name.

Towson University is among the top 100 best universities in the United States and ranks fifth in the list of the best universities in the state of Maryland. Of course, the main criteria for the ranking lie in the university’s academic program, but its athletic policy is also worth noting.

The Athletic Program of Towson University, established under the name Towson College Knights, today is called the Towson Tigers and consists of 19 men’s and women’s teams, which compete in the first division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association as a part of the Coastal Athletic Association. The TU sponsors more than ten sports disciplines, including Baseball, Basketball, Field Hockey, Gymnastics, and others.

The logo of Towson Tigers created in 1997 featured a bright yellow and black combination of a graphical emblem placed above the stylized logotype in two levels. The upper part of the badge featured an image of a tiger. The animal looked serious and dangerous, reflecting the character and mood of the teams. As for the lettering, the “Towson” part was enlarged and placed above the “University” in all capitals of a bold geometric sans-serif typeface. The yellow letters of the inscription were all outlined in black.

2002 – 2011

Towson Tigers Logo

Both the current Towson Tigers logo and the previous one dwell on the tiger as its main element. On the current emblem, we can see the side view of a tiger’s head with its mouth open. There are sharp fangs that somehow “rhyme” with the way the word “Towson” is written above. The palette combines black and yellow.
