The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, has a more or less successful athletic program including 16 teams. While most of them play in the NCAA Division I, the football team belongs to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.
Meaning and history
The current Citadel Bulldogs logo features a large “C” in light blue over the dark blue map of the state of South Carolina. The letter and the map have white trim.
The previous emblem was introduced in 2000. It is by far more detailed (or cluttered – depending on you personal design preferences). In addition to the program’s name, there is the bulldog’s head.
1969 – 1987
The first Citadel Bulldogs watermark was a blue C letter trimmed white and black. The letter had a strong sans serif typeface. On it, we can see the white vertically written full name. Inside the big C, there was a white bulldog with a bandage on its back. The bandage itself had a little C character on it.
1987 – 2021
The following logotype was just the inscription ‘The Citadel’ drawn in blue and white colors. It had a capitalized serif typeface with the letters executed in multiple blue lines. The first ‘C’ character was much enlarged due to which the whole logo looked distinctive. Above the main word, there was a piece of paper with ‘The’ word on it.
2021 – Today
The 2021 brand logo is a large ‘C’ character colored blue and outlined dark blue. Inside it, there is a dark blue star. Below it, we can see the name, written in a capitalized sans-serif typeface.
