What is Straw Hat?
Straw Hat is the nickname of Monkey D. Luffy, the main character in the One Piece manga and anime, who aspires to be the Pirate King by all means. He is helped in his quest by his strength, speed, the ability to stretch his body parts gained from eating the Devil Fruit, and the faithful Mugiwara team.
In terms of visual identity, the logo of the hero had its straw hat as the brightest element. It is a straw headdress made by weaving, decorated with a red ribbon of medium width around the outline. Legend has it that the ribbon was sewn by Nami after she pulled a piece of paper from the mouth of Matsuge, the camel that accompanied the Straw Hat crew on their Alabasta Desert journey.
???? – Today
The Straw Hat logo depicts a black-and-white caricature of a skull, placed over two crossed bones. The white skull in a medium-thick black outline is wearing a bright yellow straw hat with a red ribbon. All the elements of the image are outlined in black, which makes the picture look very distinctive, with recognizable geometry and rounded angles. More often the skull can be seen on a white background, although sometimes it can be placed over a solid black field.
Font and color
The cartoonish logo of the Straw Hat character from the One Piece anime does not have any lettering on it, hence there is no typeface to identify. Although, the color palette of the badge is composed of four shades: black and white for the skull, and red and yellow for the straw hat and the ribbon. The two last shades elevate the look of the badge and make it eye-catching and instantly recognizable.
