The image of a castle in modern realities, first of all, symbolizes greatness and power. And also, of course, has a historical context, which shows the connection of the company or brand, using the image of the castle in its logo, with the roots and traditions. In general, according to dictionaries, a castle is a comparatively compact construction, designed mainly for military needs, and, therefore, the main purpose of this structure is defense. Even the word Castle itself comes from the Latin Castrum, which means “military camp”.
From the architectural point of view, castles have clear boundaries, defensive walls, observation towers, and, most often, moats around the perimeter. When viewed from above, castles were mostly either quadrangles or polygons. And it’s for this geometricity the image of castles is so loved by many designers. The mighty, towering, impregnable structure best demonstrated superiority, strength, and inviolability.
Today we have collected for you the most interesting, in our opinion, logos of companies from different sectors, which in one way or another have the image of castles.
Braga
Braga has the status of one of the oldest Christian cities. There are many cathedrals, churches, and other historic buildings, but the main attraction of this Portuguese city is the medieval castle Castelo de Braga, and it is its towers that adorn the coat of arms of both the city and its main sports club, which bears the same name.
Bristol
The Bristol Coat of Arms also boasts an image of a castle. Executed uh a white and black color palette, the triangular crest is inscribed into a solid red roundel with a thick black frame, where the white uppercase lettering is supported by the white outlines of the framing.
Castle Morpeth Borough Council
The Castle Morpeth Borough Council’s visual identity features a pretty minimalistic and progressive image of a rounded castle tower, which is drawn in thick blue strokes in the upper left part of the banner. The image is accompanied by stable black lettering in a progressive geometric typeface, which adds such qualities as professionalism and confidence to the badge.
Castle Pubs
Another way of using a castle image in its logo was adopted by the Castle Pubs chain. The company has created a laconic yet powerful and distinctive image, with the massive castle tower bearing a flag on top, inscribed into a thin circular frame, which has its contour opened at the bottom, opening the arched gates to the tower. The calm blue emblem is underlined by the bold uppercase wordmark in the same color.
Castleford Tigers
The Castleford Tigers football club has a super fancy historical logo, based on traditional heraldic symbols and a chic gold color palette. The classy crest with a brick castle on it is set inside an ornate wide frame, which top part is decorated by a large bird with its wings spread to the sides. The emblem is accompanied by a bold gothic-style inscription, also in gold.
Dark Castle Entertainment
The castle from the Dark Castle Entertainment logo looks a little creepy due to the use of a black-and-white color palette and uneven contours of all elements. The rounded emblem, placed on the left of the composition, is accompanied by an uppercase serif lettering, which also has uneven contours, making the badge look mysterious and hazy.
Lens
The Racing Club de Lens uses a traditional heraldic logo, where the black-and-white stylized castle image is placed against the solid yellow part of the classy crest, diagonally divided into two parts. The red segment features a bond white RCL abbreviation, written in a string geometric sans-serif font, which adds progressiveness to the elegant design.
Marquette University
Marquette University is a proud owner of a sleek and stylish logo, full of historical heritage and elegance. The emblem of the university is a yellow torch castle, drawn on a solid blue rectangle, with the sharp tower stretched up, to the skies. The graphical part is supported by a two-leveled lettering in blue, where the emboldened and enlarged “Marquette” is underlined by the “University” in smaller and lighter capitals.
Newcastle City Council
The corner of a castle with two towers on the sides is depicted on the logo of the Newcastle City Council, drawn in thin and straight black lines. The lightweight geometric emblem is balanced by a funky handwritten wordmark, written in a designer sans-serif with jumpy characters, grounded by a clean and modest sans-serif tagline.
Takeshi’s Castle Thailand
The fictional castle, which is the main element in the Takeshi’s Castle show idea, is drawn in silver and black lines against a solid red circle on the logo of Takeshi’s Castle Thailand. The image is accompanied by a three-dimensional metallic lettering, which overlaps the bottom part of the red roundel.
University of Pittsburgh
The castle from the logo of the University of Pittsburgh is hidden in the frame of the emblem, creating a crown-line top for the modest classy crest outlined in blue. The main part of the crest is the wide horizontal yellow stripe with a blue checkered pattern on it. The emblem is accompanied by a simple yet elegant serif lettering in blue.
Walt Disney
Definitely, the most famous logo with an image of a castle on it is the logo of Walt Disney. This castle really does exist. It is called Neuschwanstein, and it is located in the Bavarian Alps, in southern Germany. This superb castle impressed Walt Disney so much, that he got the idea to draw it on the logo. However, this idea was realized only after the death of the famous cartoonist.
White Castle
The White Castle logo has the corner of a castle wall drawn in yellow, white, and blue, drawn on the background of the composition. The wall is overlapped by a two-leveled blue lettering in a fancy designer typeface, with the contours of some characters resembling the architecture of the castle.
