Meaning and history
LongHorn Steakhouse is one of the most popular American casual dining chains, which was started in Atlanta Georgia at the beginning of the 1980s, by George McKerrow. The first restaurant of the chain was called LongHorn Steaks Restaurant & Saloon and was stylized as a real American Wild West saloon.
From the beginning of the 1990s, the chain started expanding to other states of the country, and today LongHorn Steakhouse has more than 550 locations across the United States. The chain is owned by Darden Restaurants Group, a Florida-based restaurant management company, which has several successful projects in its portfolio.
What is LongHorn Steakhouse?
LongHorn Steakhouse is an American brand of a restaurant chain with 559 locations across the United States. The chain is specialized in steaks and meats and is considered to be one of the most popular destinations for casual dining.
In terms of visual identity, the LongHorn Steakhouse chain has always been loyal to its roots, keeping the original badge, designed in 1981, unchanged by today. It has already become extremely recognizable in the United States and is synonymous with steaks of great quality.
1981 – Today
The LongHorn Steakhouse badge, designed in 1981, is composed of a graphical part and a two-leveled inscription, executed in a brown and burgundy color palette, which looks warm and welcoming. The graphical emblem of the LongHorn logo depicts a bull with long horns, drawn in a thick brown line, with the contours looking sleek and foment. The head is placed a bit diagonally, with the thinner horn placed above the first letters of the inscription.
As for the lettering part, its upper line is executed in the uppercase of a narrowed serif font with tall characters in burgundy, and the bottom, “Steakhouse”, is level in a heavy and bold serif font with extended capital letters, in brown.
Font and color
The elegant and stable lettering from the primary badge of the LongHorn Steakhouse restaurant chain is set in a brutal and sleek serif typeface with slightly narrowed contours of the lettering in the top level and extended — in the bottom line. The closest fonts to the one, used in this insignia, are, probably, Quick Meal Regular, or Black No. 7, but with most of the contours strengthened and modified.
As for the color palette of the LongHorn visual identity, it is based on a sleek and warm combination of brown and burgundy, the colors of meat and red wine, which evoke a very welcoming and friendly feeling and represent the main specialization of the restaurant chain.
