Meaning and history
Final Fantasy XIV is an iconic multiplayer role-playing game that has amassed an army of over 30 million players worldwide. Created by Square Enix, this popular fantasy MMORPG is set in the exciting open world of Eorzea where players can explore amazing locations, fight epic bosses, and participate in massive raids.
Final Fantasy XIV was originally released in September 2010, but the game was criticized for its boring gameplay, lack of content, and general unfinished nature. The company responded sharply to the criticism by changing the project’s leadership and undertaking a complete redesign of the game. The updated Final Fantasy XIV was subtitled A Realm Reborn and released in August 2013. It was almost entirely a new game, which led to critics changing from anger to mercy. However, for the developers, that first bad experience became something of a sore point, so now they release a big patch with new features and improvements every three months.
What makes Final Fantasy XIV is its deep story. Players have access to a variety of races and fighting classes, with more content unlocked as they level up. A character can master all available roles, switching between them without creating a new hero. This makes the gameplay varied and interesting.
In addition, Final Fantasy XIV impresses with its graphics, music, and regular updates. Each add-on adds new zones, classes, and storylines, expanding the game’s universe. No other MMO can boast of such a speed of adding content as Final Fantasy XIV.
2010 – 2012
The Final Fantasy XIV visual identity featured the same elegant and light style as all the games of the Final Fantasy series. The logo is composed of a wordmark with a detailed drawing on its left.
The Final Fantasy XIV nameplate in all capitals is executed in a thin and delicate serif typeface, which is very similar to OPTI Enge Etienne, designed by CastCraft. The letters are slightly narrowed and elongated, which creates a light and kind feeling.
The Final Fantasy XIV graphical element depicts fourteen men and women warriors, drawn in tender and light shades of blue, purple and red. The number of the figures corresponds to the XIV, the number of the game’s edition. All the warriors have their weapons up, which creates thin rays coming out of the emblem.
On the Online version of the game, the emblem is drawn in a light blue color palette, which looks crispy and bright.
The Final Fantasy XIV logo is elegant and remarkable. It is instantly recognizable all over the world and perfectly reflects the game’s nature and essence.
2013 – 2015
In 2013 A Real Reborn version of the Final Fantasy XIV was released, with the new logo created for it. The black lettering in the same narrowed serif font was now placed at the bottom of the composition, while the main part of the badge was taken by a light-blue image where the characters of the game were drawn in a stylized image. The blue drawing was accompanied by the elegant burgundy inscription, where the horizontal bars of the “A”s were replaced by small solid diamonds, and the contour of the “O” was drawn in flames.
2015 – Today
The redesign of 2015 has kept just the solid black lettering on a plain white background, refining the contours of the sharp and elegant capitals. The name of the game is written in the top line, accompanied by the uppercase sans-serif “Online” in small caps and completed by a thin long arched line at the bottom, with the ends of the line crossing the letters of the “Final Fantasy XIV” wordmark.
