What is Fiji Airways?
Fiji Airways is the national airline of Fiji, based in Nadi. It operates both international and domestic flights, connecting Fiji to various destinations worldwide. The airline offers a range of services, including passenger and cargo transportation, and is known for providing a comfortable travel experience with a touch of Fijian hospitality.
1951 – 1961
The first logo of the air carrier, designed in 1951, featured simple black lettering in the uppercase of a narrowed sans-serif typeface with the characters slightly slanted to the right. The inscription was simply placed against a white background with no graphical additions.
1961 – 1966
The redesign of 1961 has rewritten the name of the air carrier in more square characters, with softened contours, and switched the color palette of the logo to red and white. Yet still no graphical elements were added.
1966 – 1971
In 1966 the Fiji Airways logo was redrawn with more color and style. The new composition featured a black and red emblem placed on the left from the black and white inscription in a bold geometric sans-serif typeface. The emblem depicted an abstract geometric fish-like figure with black spikes.
1970 – 19??
In 1970 the name of the airline was changed to Air Pacific, hence the new logo was designed in the same year. The logo changed its color palette to blue, with the emblem featuring more shades — yellow, orange, and purple. As for the main elements, they were refined and strengthened but were still resembling the previous version.
19?? – 2003
The elegant emblem from the previous badge was redrawn geometrically, with four thick stripes making up a trapezoid with a narrow side at the bottom. The lettering changed its typeface to a strict yet slanted one, with the distinctive contours of the characters and straight cuts of the bars.
2003 – 2012
The geometric emblem gained a more elegant shape of an airplane wing after the redesign of 2003. The lettering got a bit more elegant, with the characters gaining narrower silhouettes, while the color palette of the main wordmark remaining the same. As for the “Fiji’s International Airline” tagline, it was rewritten in black now.
2012 – Today
The name of the air carrier was changed back to Fiji Airways in 2012. And the logo, created for the company in the same year was completely different from all the previous versions. Now the badge is set in a black and white color palette, with stylized elegant lettering placed on the right from a circular emblem with a geometric ornament on it.
