Meaning and history
Citi was formed through the merger of Citicorp and Travelers Corp and its logo today is a graphical expression of the company’s establishment.
The Citi logo, designed by Pentagram in 1998, is composed of a brand’s name inscription and an arch, that connects two letters “I” on their top. The red arch above the letters is an abstract representation of an umbrella from the Traveler Corp logo. And the letter “T” looks like the umbrella’s handle.
The wordmark in all the lowercase lettering is executed in a custom sans-serif typeface with clean neat lines. It is very simple yet elegant. The font is similar to Interstate but was hand-drawn and the letter “T” is customized.
The color palette of the Citi logo is composed of blue and red on a white background. Blue is the color of confidence, excellence, and professionalism, while red celebrates passion, energy, and progress.
The Citi logo is a perfect reflection of the brand’s history and heritage. It is modern, minimalist and instantly recognizable across the world.
