BJP is the abbreviation, standing for Bharatiya Janata Party, the right-wing political party of India; which name can be translated into English as “Indian People’s Party”. Established in 1989, the BJP has been ruling in its country since 2014, and it is one of two leading political forces in India.

Meaning and history

BJP is formed in 1980, but based on the beliefs and works of Jana Sangh, the party was popular in India in the 1950s — late 1970s. The main idea of the right-wing politicians in India is that human is the center of everything. BJP is also known to be quite a nationalistic organization.

What is BJP?

BJP, or Bharatiya Janata Party, is the political party, which has been ruling in India since 2014. One of the two largest parties, BJP was established at the beginning of the 1980s and is known for its nationalistic views. BJP puts the human in the center of the system.

The visual identity of the Indian right-wing political party has been designed right after the established ent of BJP, in 1980, and hasn’t been changed since then, reflecting the value of the history and roots, which are important for Bharatiya Janata (its predecessor was Bharatiya Jana Sangh, founded by Syama Prasad Mookerje in 1951).

BJP logo

The visual identity of one of the largest and most influential Indian political parties, BJP, has two emblems, with one idea, but slightly different compositions, which are used for various needs. The logo is based on an image of a lotus in a saffron color palette.

Lotus has always been a sacred flower for Indian culture, you can see it depicted with many of the Hindu gods, such as, for example, Lakshmi or Vishnu. It symbolizes wealth and knowledge, wisdom and longevity. But the saffron lotus, is something escalated, the non-existent plant, which combines all the meanings in one.

The primary version of the BJP logo features an orange (saffron) flower in a bold black outline with some green leaves. It domes out of a white bottom with some short black strokes on it.

As for the secondary version, it is more complex and bright: here the flower in white and black is placed on the right, orange, part of the green and orange rectangular flag, which is oriented horizontally.

Font and color

The visual identity of Bharatiya Janata Party, or simply BJP, is based on just a graphical element, with no additional lettering. The emblem is set in green and orange, the two most important colors in India, which stand for two main confessions in the country — Islamic and Buddhist, respectively. Orange is also a color of energy and passion, which makes the party move and evolve, while green symbolized new beginnings and prosperity.
