Meaning and history
Bemidji State University, founded in 1919, is a public state university in Bemidji, Minnesota, located on the shores of Lake Bemidji, part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities educational group. It is a small, predominantly liberal arts and sciences university with a very friendly student body.
Although Bemidji State University is one of the most budget-friendly institutions of higher education in America, it is known not only for its programs of study (which are famous for such areas as art and design, humanities, geography, pedagogy, music, ecology, business, biology) but also for its sports program, especially its hockey teams.
Apart from hockey, the Bemidji State Beavers program has twelve more men’s and women’s teams, which compete in various sports disciplines, including Basketball, Golf, Tennis, and several others. All but the hockey teams compete in the second division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
2004 – Today
The Bemidji State Beavers logo features the university’s mascot known under the name of Bucky Beaver. To be precise, there is the side view of the beaver’s head. In contrast to the emblems of many other sports teams, the animal doesn’t look menacing at all. On the contrary, it’s pretty calm and yet determined. The head is facing slightly up, which can symbolize optimism.
The beaver’s head is housed inside two curves forming an ellipsoid. The curves are dark green.
Colors
Green and white, the university’s official colors, form an eye-pleasing and unique combination. On the logo, they appear in combination with a dark beige shade. White is used for the background and for the teeth. Black is added for the outline and the small elements of the design. The overall impression of the Bemidji State Beavers logo palette is pretty calm, without any popping out or screaming shades.
Hockey
The men’s ice hockey team is definitely among the most successful ones in the university’s athletic program. It belongs to College Hockey America. Coached by Tom Serratore, the men’s team played its first season in 1947–48.
