Attack on Titan (original name “Shingeki no kyojin”) is one of the most popular anime series of all time, as evidenced by the fact that it made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as the “most-watched anime series”. The show, whose plot revolves around people suffering attacks from giant monsters in a post-apocalyptic world, was first released in 2013 and ran for exactly ten years.
Meaning and history
Attack on Titan is one of the brightest representatives of such an art form as anime. The series was originally created in the sub-genre of shonen, i.e. anime for teenage boys. However, with the viewing of the series, the anime is revealed more deeply and touches on topics familiar not only to boys.
So, the first episode of Attack on Titans was released on April 7, 2013. Since then, a total of 4 seasons and 89 episodes have been released. However, the series went on with long breaks, making its fans significantly nervous. The author of the idea and the main scriptwriter is Hajime Isayama, who since 2009 made the manga Attack on Titans, on which they decided to make an anime series a few years later.
The story of Attack on Titan is set in a fictional walled state. The inhabitants of this state are hiding from bloodthirsty cannibalistic titans. One day the Titans break the wall protecting the city, and the monsters rush inside. The protagonists of Attack on Titan, being children, join the army to fight the giants.
The main characters are orphaned teenagers, Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, who quickly learn the hardships of war. Attack on Titan is a story about overcoming one’s fears, courage, loyalty, love, and camaraderie, and how important is to act as a team.
The anime Attack on Titan has become a real cultural phenomenon. Thus, in Japan, based on this manga, several full-length films with live actors were made, and on the theater stage, you could see a real musical.
In terms of visual identity, Attack on Titan is cold and sharp, as the whole concept is based on the use of blade-like bars in the inscription, and silverfish shades, supported by the small yet bright flame-like elements.
2009 – Today
The Attack on Titan logo, designed at the beginning of the TV series, featured the name of the show written in glossy silver characters against a plain white background. The main thing here was the scratched surfaces of the bars, with some dark red bloody stripes and spots on some of them. The wordmark was accompanied by a lowercase gothic lettering written across a gradient orange-to-yellow element at the bottom of the composition.
2014 – Today
The logo in the image features a bold and impactful design for “Attack on Titan.” The main text is written in a sharp, gothic-style font with a metallic texture, giving it a gritty and battle-hardened appearance. The letters are weathered with splashes of red, resembling bloodstains, which reinforces the theme of violence and struggle.
Behind the main English text, the Japanese title, “進撃の巨人” (Shingeki no Kyojin), appears in a smaller size, rendered in a matching distressed style, adding depth and cultural authenticity. A subtle glow surrounds the entire logo, emphasizing its ominous and dramatic tone. The overall design conveys a sense of urgency, danger, and resilience, perfectly reflecting the intense themes of the series.
Font and color
The bold stylized lettering from the primary logo of the Attack on Titan logo is set in a custom typeface with the characters written in bold and distinctive bars with straight and edgy cuts of the ends.
Due to the cold silver color palette of the main part of the logo, the characters in the inscription look like dangerous blades, while the additional bloody-red and flamy-orange details add a sense of passion and power to it.
